Nautical Archaeologist

And not just the kind in the bath!

We've always though Ivy would be a marine biologist when she grows up, but today we found a new career for her. She will become a nautical archaeologist (Auntie Heidi will be so proud)! We went to Shipwreck Day at TAMU's Institute for Nautical Archaeology. They had a 3-D printer that made artifacts! They had a magic pen-thingy that let you touch a digital rendering of artifacts! They made replicas of entire ships based on only a few artifacts! It was a real adventure, and then we went to Potbelly's for lunch and I had a chicken salad sandwich and a little bit of Josh's malt, and Ivy had french toast and avomacado.

Ivy went on her first bike ride this week. We walked her around the block at first to get her used to things. Both the helmet (from Ana and Brendan) and the seat are a little big for her, but we went slowly and she LOVED riding. I think we'll have big fun riding this summer. I plan to take her to the pool on the bike. I rode to school again this week, and it's been fun, except with the headwind.

I wanted to show Ivy in the bath. Luckily, her big fat buddha belly keeps her from being too immodest. She loves her monkey and her elephant. They both squirt water at her. Bathtime is one of the best times of our day. She doesn't like to get out, though, and we have to let her take a bath toy with her. She remains very cranky in the evenings; Josh, Grandma Rachel and I all think it's because she doesn't want the fun day to end. I finally figured out the bottle problem. She doesn't like warm milk. When we give her room temperature or cooler bottles, she happily drinks. Bedtime is getting easier.

I know I say this every week, but Ivy really is getting better at maneuvering around her world. This morning, instead of letting me make her into the bed, she sat up and leaned forward and flipped all around. She rolls back and forth, and all across the floor. She's amazing (and possibly still a little delayed).

I'm done teaching next week, but Josh has to teach again on Monday. I remember in December that we thought if we could just make it to May, we'd be fine. It looks like we're going to be fine! Ivy has grown up so much, we've grown into our lives, and we're both looking forward to this summer and to next term.

Leo and his moms visit next week. All I want is to drink margaritas, eat guacamole, and talk to our friends. We will set up the pool and all (except Josh) sit in the sun. Leo will teach Ivy to walk and sing. It will be the perfect end to this school year.

I love to play in and on the bed! I love to perch like a little frog!
I love Mommy and Daddy! I am Ivy, and I am a sunshine girl!
